The dog walking fraternity is an important part of daily life in the park. Dog owners invariably know the names of the various dogs they meet – it’s the other owner’s names they have problems with!
Dogs do not need to be on leads (despite several – incorrect - notices to the contrary) but please ensure they are “kept under control” – some adults and young children can be very upset by the close attention of even the friendliest of dogs.
As with all public spaces dog fouling is a major issue. When it comes to topics of conversation in the park, dog dirt is up there with the weather & the state of the bridge. There are no designated dog fouling areas in the park. Please remember that owners have a legal duty to clear up after their dogs. There are a number of dog waste bins available around the park.
Neighbourhood Wardens do patrol the park. They have the power to issue “on the spot” fines to owners who fail to clean up after their dogs. Such fines have been issued in the park. Please don’t become a statistic.
On a more positive note, several sponsored dog walks have taken place in the past. There even appears to be an informal competition for the muddiest dog over the winter months.
Finally, please remember that dogs are not allowed in either of the children’s play areas.
