The ponds in Stamford Park are one of the most popular and charming attractions - a peaceful wildlife haven perfect for families, nature lovers, and anyone looking to unwind.

Home to a variety of birds, including Canada geese, pigeons, moorhens, coots, and the occasional mandarin duck. Dragonflies, frogs, and pond snails also thrive here, making it a great spot for gentle nature watching.

A colourful educational ‘Pond Watch’ board beside the pond helps visitors identify the different species and explains why it’s best not to feed bread (seeds are much better for the birds and the water quality) duck seed can be bought from The Little Deli, 42 Stamford Park Road.

Whether you’re feeding the ducks (responsibly), taking photos, or simply enjoying the scenery from the benches, the ponds are a delightful centrepiece of the park and a firm favourite with children and adults alike.

Don’t forget to look out for ‘Vinnie’ the giant willow duck who lives on the island in the smaller pond. Created by St Vincents Catholic Primary School in 2026, with the expertise of Willow Goat Crafts. The project was supported by Trafford Council and co-ordinated by the Friends of Stamford Park. Vinnie was installed into his new home by The Conservation Volunteers - TCV Manchester.
