FRIENDS OF STAMFORD PARK
Stamford Park is a popular 16-acre Grade II-listed public park on the borders of Altrincham and Hale.
Opened in 1880 on land donated by the 7th Earl of Stamford and designed by landscape gardener John Shaw, it was one of the first parks in England created with major provision for sports and recreation.
Today it remains a much-loved Green Flag Award-winning green space, offering children’s play areas, ornamental ponds, a café, bowling greens, tennis and basketball courts, colourful gardens, a woodland trail and open lawns - perfect for families, walkers, sports and quiet relaxation and just a short walk from Altrincham town centre.
Friends of Stamford Park is an independent, not-for-profit volunteer group formed to act as a voice for park users. Working closely with One Trafford, we are dedicated volunteers who organise regular gardening sessions, monthly clean-ups, fundraising events and family activities.
Our aims include restoring heritage features, boosting biodiversity, improving facilities such as the play areas, and encouraging greater community involvement so that this much-loved Grade II-listed park continues to thrive for everyone to enjoy.

It’s Official!
In July 2026, the park retained its Green Flag for a second year.
In 2025, Stamford Park achieved Green Flag status for the very first time. The twelfth Trafford park to receive this award.
